After Linda Dale's boyfriend, Gary Preston (the masked hero the Flame from Earth-164A), was killed fighting the Octopus, the young woman was given a vial and a letter with instructions. Gary asked her to use the old secret formula of the "Flame People" to become the new Flame and continue his legacy. Linda fulfilled her boyfriend's last wishes and became a masked heroine. Shortly afterward she joined the Battle Squadron where she met the Silver Knight. They fell in love and at the end of World War II they got married.
Linda gained the ability to control fire and heat. She can raise her own body temperature to the point of bursting into flames or melting bullets. She can control and direct any flame in her presence. She can also teleport from one place to another by appearing inside any source of fire, no matter how small. The Flame's only weakness is water, which can seriously weaken it.
