The Crime Busters were the first group of superheroes in history. The team was founded in 1940 and on its first mission they saved the life of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt himself. The group's first lineup consisted of Diamond Jack, The Human Meteor (Dash Dartwell), The Wraith (Gary Kenedy), Master Mystic, Mr. Midnite (Neal Carruthers III), Oracle (Bob Paxton), Blue Monk (Gene "Shorty" Wilson) and Air Man (Drake Stevens). Wonderboy and Black Owl were also honorary members of the team. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States government created the Battle Squadron, which brought together all the masked heroes and The Crime Busters became one its most active parts. Other costumed heroes who joined the team were Tommy "Red" Reeves and his Magic Marble, Nightro (Hugh Goddard), Lady Fairplay (Mary Lee), Comet (John Dickering), Twilight (Terry Gardner), Moon Girl, Black Widow (Linda Masters), and Air Woman (Ellen Page).
