The Topper was a mystery man in the 1940s. His civilian identity was Bartholomew Graham, a wealthy Fox City socialite. But every night he would dress up in his best tuxedo, top hat and domino mask to fight crime in his town as The Topper. Like the vast majority of Earth-164A's paranormal heroes, Barry joined the Battle Squadron during WW II.
The closest thing Barry possessed to paranormal abilities was his innate sense of justice and his Harvard education. However he was in exceptional physical shape and was an amateur champion in horse riding, boxing and fencing. His favorite weapon was a cane that he used as a blunt weapon or as a stab weapon thanks to a hidden blade. Graham knew how to use a gun with great aim but decided not to do so, considering firearms "something undignified".
